Modern Desert Garden Retreat

Drought-Tolerant Landscape Design in Mill Valley

The homeowners wanted to replace a large expanse of concrete with a beautiful outdoor space that required minimal water and maintenance. Pacific Garden Artistry developed a modern desert-inspired landscape that combines elegance, sustainability, and functionality.

The project began with the installation of custom-cut bluestone paver pathways, creating structure and flow throughout the property. Decorative Mexican pebbles were carefully placed between and around the pathways to provide contrast and visual interest. To further reduce water consumption, drought-tolerant plants were selected based on their suitability for Marin County's climate and their ability to thrive with minimal irrigation.

Decomposed granite and natural stone elements were incorporated to reinforce the desert-inspired aesthetic while improving drainage and reducing maintenance requirements. Redwood mulch was added to planting areas to help retain moisture, improve soil health, and suppress weeds naturally.

The completed landscape demonstrates how sustainable landscaping and thoughtful design can create a luxurious outdoor environment while significantly reducing water use.
