Mill Valley Landscape Renovation
A Thoughtful Landscape Renovation with California-Native Planting and Stonework
As part of a larger property renovation in Mill Valley, Pacific Garden Artistry transformed the home's front and back yards, improving the property's appearance, functionality, and overall landscape health.
The project began with addressing several maintenance and fire-safety concerns. Low-hanging branches, dried weeds, and overgrown vegetation had left portions of the property in need of attention. The existing landscape fabric had also deteriorated, no longer providing the intended weed-control and drainage benefits.
Our team installed new, longer-lasting landscape fabric designed to allow better water drainage, pruned existing shrubs, and refreshed the planting beds with redwood mulch. Beyond its clean, natural appearance, mulch helps retain soil moisture, cover exposed irrigation lines and bare ground, and limit sunlight reaching weed seeds.
A key feature of the front yard renovation was the construction of two custom stone retaining walls. Designed to work with the property's sloping terrain, the walls created more manageable planting areas, helped reduce soil movement, and provided better conditions for plants to establish and thrive.
The renovation extended beyond the gardens. Pacific Garden Artistry also sanded and refinished the existing fence, stairs, and deck, bringing these elements back into harmony with the refreshed landscape.
Throughout the property, we incorporated a selection of California and Mediterranean-inspired, drought-tolerant plants, with an emphasis on California natives. The result is a more cohesive outdoor environment that complements Mill Valley's natural character while supporting water-conscious landscaping.
From stonework and planting to wood restoration and landscape improvements, this project reflects our approach to craftsmanship: thoughtful solutions, quality materials, and attention to the details that make a property feel complete.
