Sustainable Landscape Renovation in Tiburon

This Tiburon property had become overgrown and difficult to maintain. Aging timber steps, an unreliable irrigation system, and a water-intensive lawn no longer reflected the elegance of the Mediterranean-style home or the lifestyle of its owners.

Pacific Garden Artistry completely transformed the landscape with a focus on sustainability, safety, and timeless design done by Vanessa Workman at Foliava Garden Design. The existing lawn was replaced with crushed limestone, dramatically reducing water use while creating a clean, low-maintenance setting for a custom bocce ball court. Six large travertine pavers establish a welcoming approach to the court, while an Arizona stone pathway winds naturally through planting beds, connecting outdoor living spaces with warmth and character.

Safety improvements were equally important. The team replaced deteriorating timber steps with durable new construction, improving accessibility throughout the property. A leaking irrigation system was removed and replaced with a modern smart irrigation system that automatically adjusts watering schedules based on local weather forecasts and humidity levels. Separate drip irrigation zones deliver water efficiently to every planting area, while a new backflow preventer protects the home's potable water supply by preventing irrigation water from flowing backward into the plumbing system.

To complete the transformation, Pacific Garden Artistry installed more than 500 carefully selected plants, including elegant fruitless olive trees that complement the home's Mediterranean architecture. The finished landscape is beautiful, environmentally responsible, and built for long-term enjoyment—offering improved fire resilience, greater accessibility, exceptional water efficiency, and a welcoming outdoor environment that will continue to mature for years to come.
